Our Clients Say:
After the birth of our third child and following a very unexpected turn of events, which resulted in a C Section and major surgery five days post birth, we as a family were struggling to say the least.
We contacted Jenny, as we needed help especially as my husband was returning to work. From the outset, our communications with Jenny were positive. She replied promptly to our queries and we were able to quickly organise for her to come and help us out for two weeks.
Once Jenny came through the door, I breathed a sigh of relief. She effortlessly fitted into the family dynamic and set to work immediately. I was quite immobile and couldn’t do much except feed baby. Jenny took care of me without having to ask for instructions constantly. She is very intuitive and knows exactly what a new mother and baby need without having to ask. She was marvellous with baby and I immediately felt at ease and trusted her being involved with his care.
She put on washes, organised clothes, kept the kitchen tidy, made meals, made sure I was well fed, watered and not in pain and generally kept the show on the road. She collected my two little girls from school, made them lunch, helped with homework and made sure they were ok. Jenny has a natural, loving nature and my girls immediately took to her and looked forward to her coming every day.
Jenny was a not only a tremendous help practically for the family, she was also a much needed listener. Having been through the wars with my birth and afterwards, it was very important for me to have someone with whom to discuss my experiences. Jenny is a sympathetic listener and is very knowledgeable about birth experiences: the good and the not so good.
Jenny was a lifeline to our family at a time when we felt vulnerable and overwhelmed. I would phone her instantly if I ever found myself in this situation again!

"I would highly recommend Liffey Doulas. I met both Jenny and Bernie for an
initial chat and they were relaxed, fun as well as very professional. Jenny
came to me as a post-partum doula and her help around the house as well as
chats was invaluable. It was great to have a second set of hands around the
house in those initial days when when things seem so hard. Jenny helped
with light housework, with organising the baby clothes as well as batch
cooking for the freezer, it was a great support."

"When it comes to finding a Doula to help look after your baby, the most precious part of your life, it is not always easy to find someone who is the right fit and who you can feel truly comfortable with and feel at ease knowing that they are caring for your child so that you can get some badly needed rest or a break together as a couple. In this respect we felt really lucky to have Bernie work with us as our Doula. Bernie truly excelled in every area of the job that you could think of. She is knowledgeable, sincere, diligent, kind hearted and incredibly easy to get along with.
But what sets Bernie a class apart from everyone else in this field are the intangibles which don't necessarily show up in a CV or can be easily quantified. But to us they made all the difference. Firstly, and most importantly, Bernie has a very gentle personality. Obviously, every Doula is going to try and have a soft approach around the baby they are looking after, but this is not necessarily something that is always innate and natural. Our baby, who is quite sensitive warmed to her instantly because she has such a gentle demeanour which translates into every aspect of the care she provides, from changing the nappy, to carrying the baby, to simply playing with her. No one can be as warm and kind to a baby as perhaps their own mother, but Bernie is as close to that ideal as it is possible to get in our opinion, so much so that it can be hard to tell the difference, she has so much genuine compassion and love to share.
Bernie is also diligent to a fault. Some Doulas have very strictly defined working parameters about what they will or will not do and what they consider their responsibilities. With Bernie, she was always LOOKING for things to do, for ways she could help us out. It was almost like she felt guilty if she wasn't working in some way for the time that she spent with us. It really made us feel that we were getting our money's worth and while this is perhaps not the way to look at things, it did make a big difference to us in that it really allowed us to rest and recover and have some time to ourselves.
All in all, Bernie is just a really lovely, friendly and brilliant person who felt very much a part of the family and we feel blessed to have had her as a part of our lives in this most important time of it for us. We could not recommend her more strongly."

"Studies show that having a Doula on your birth team decreases the chances of medical interventions. That alone had convinced me of the benefits of having a Doula but having one like Bernie was a bonus! She is so caring, comforting and calm that I felt stronger knowing she would be at the delivery. It was great to know she was there as a support not only to me but my husband also. When I learned I would have to be induced I started to panic as I saw it as the start of a slippery slope to a c-section, Bernie immediately sent me positive induction stories which helped me tremendously. In the end it was the perfect delivery all according to my birth wishes and I have her to thank for her positive support. She was also there during those very hard first weeks of having the baby at home. I will always be grateful to her for her help."

"Just wanted to thank Bernie for her support over the last few months, beginning well before we even attended our GentleBirth workshop. Full of great information, advice & encouragement both the GentleBirth program & Bernie herself have been a massive support! Can't wait to share my birth story. Would highly recommend" - Stephanie - March 2015
"In early December my partner and I attend a gentle birth workshop with Bernie. It was a very positive experience. Throughout the workshop Bernie created a very open and positive environment in which you were free to voice your concerns and no question or query seemed too trivial or unimportant. It was a very relaxed setting and Bernie gave you the confidence to believe in your birthing process. Our little button is due in March and I cannot wait to meet our baby and have a gentle birth. I know that if I have any questions or need support Bernie is there at the end of the phone which is a great comfort as time gets closer, the online support of the the gentle birth mums is amazing also. "Our beautiful baby girl Rose arrived on Sunday night. In the end we had an Emergency Caesarean Birth (we were hoping for vbac) but our weekend workshop with Bernie really helped me to get through labour. I felt so much more in control this time. My husband really embraced GentleBirth even though he was reluctant before the workshop. I couldn't recommend the workshop or Bernie highly enough. Not only will you learn skills for birthing but skills for life."
